How To Price a Web Design Project
Once you have completed your web design course, the next thing you will want to do is to complete some freelance jobs. However to start out as a freelance web designer, the most important thing you have to know is how much to charge for your work, and how you intend to charge your fees.
The type of project decides your fees
To evaluate a web design project, you first have to find out all the details of the project. Some important details you have to consider is the number of pages to be created, the images or designs that are to be used and if the creation of these designs are included in the project budget.
You will also have to find out if there is to be any content in the website, and if you are to be in charge of creating it or if some other freelance writer will be given the responsibility. The rate of the project is also dependant on whether Flash; multimedia, scripting or programming will be used in the design. It is depending on these answers that your price is decided.
The more pages in the website, the more images to be placed in it. The more complicated is the type of programming to be used in the project, the higher will be the cost of the web design project.
The faster the web design is required, the higher you can charge
There are many clients who want their web designs to be created on an urgent basis. So the more urgent is the requirement, the more you can charge for the project. However if you agree to produce a web design on an urgent basis, you have to do so only if you are sure of being able to produce it on time.
The amount of experience you have in web designing is also another criterion for you to decide on the rates for your project. Obviously, the more experience you have, the more you can charge. However your experience should meet the needs of the customer. Having six years of experience in HTML will not be effective in creating an effective Flash web design for your client or a reason for you to increase your charges.
The amount of maintenance required decides your charges
Just creating a website will not be sufficient for many clients as they will need some regular maintenance for websites. Hence as a web designer, you will have to be responsible for this maintenance, and basically, have a separate contract to cover this aspect of your job.
Of course, you can get a rough estimate for the charges to be made for your web design jobs by asking how much other designers are charging for their work. You can also get an idea by visiting these freelance sites, and having a look at the side bars to find out more about the right rates.
The amount of money you intend to make through web designing can also help you in fixing your rates. Something you enjoy doing, you could charge lower rates and something that is uncomfortable for you to do, you may as well charge higher for the web design.
