Pay Per Click
PPC or pay per click refers to that form of advertising technique which is used on websites, blogs, advertising networks and search engines. In this type of advertising technique, the advertiser will have to pay for the advertisement only if the users click on the ad, which would take them to the website of the advertiser. The firms or people advertising online would bid on those keywords which according to them are used by the users when they are searching for any service or product. These keywords are used by the users in search engines to look for any products or services. The ad of the advertiser will be made available to the user if he/she types the keywords or keyword phrase that matches the keyword list of the advertiser. These advertisements can be seen beside or on top of the search results on the results pages of the search engines. We can call pay per click as a method for the purpose of search engine marketing.
You will also find the advertisements of pay per click on the content network sites or websites. In case of content network websites, there is no need for the users to perform the search as the ads can be seen on the website’s content pages and these ads are related to the web content. There are a number of firms that provide such a type of pay per click services. However, the biggest network operators are Google AdWords, MSN adCenter and Yahoo! Search marketing. The minimum cost of pay per click ads begin from $0.01 to $0.50. This, of course, will depend on the search engine.
If the keywords or terms are very popular then they would be more costly in well-known search engines. This type of marketing technique has its advantages but along with it you will also find few drawbacks like ‘click fraud’. Even though this type of drawback exists, search engines such as Google have put automated systems in to action to prevent this type of fraud.
There are two categories in the pay per click engines and there are:
- Sponsored Match or Keyword.
- Content Match.
The listing on the search engine would be displayed by itself. On the other hand, you will find ads in emails, newsletters and on publisher’s sites in case of content match. You will also find other kinds of pay per click engines that deals with services or goods. The search engines firms may be classified in to more than one group. Different new models are coming up and will continue to evolve on a constant basis. The pay per click or PPC programs does not make money simply by increasing the traffic of the websites that show the advertisements. Money is earned only if the users click on the ads.
The keywords for the purpose of pay per click programs consist of phrase or words. These keywords may also contain model numbers of certain items of products. Users use keywords to search for any products or services.
