What Is Search Engine Optimisation?
Search engine optimization is a process that allows websites to improve their rankings on the search engine results pages. When an online user runs a search, numerous pages of results will appear. The odds are that the person searching is not going to go to the fiftieth page of search results to find what they need. Most people do not go past page number one. The modern world means people are in a rush and do things quickly, so they will normally look at search results from page one only and then choose a site to go to for what they need. Search engine optimization means helping sites on the higher numbered pages to improve their rankings to page one or a specific number, like top ten or number one.
Search engine optimization is also known as SEO, and there are freelancers and businesses who do search engine optimization quickly and efficiently as the main part of their business.
There are two types of search engine optimization, white hat SEO and black hat SEO, sometimes called blue hat SEO instead to avoid the stigma with the term black hat. White hat SEO includes techniques and methods that the search engines allow, considering these methods ethical and fair for the global community. Black hat search engine optimization, on the other hand, uses methods and techniques that search engines consider unethical, misleading, or deceptive to consumers and the global community. Because of these factors, most search engines will remove a website that they have caught using black hat search engine optimization. Google did just that with two very big German businesses, one of which was BMW Germany, but the companies fixed the problems and Google readmitted the sites to the search engine.
White hat search engine optimization usually produces long term results, and with black hat SEO results only last until the search engine catches the deception. A good example of white hat search engine optimization is Google's pay per click advertising. This method works well for consumers, Google, and the websites involved and there is no deception used. Websites pay for every interested visitor that clicks on the ad for their site, which means only people interested in the ad are sent to the sponsor site. Advertisers only pay for interested visitors who want to know more, while at the same time more visitors are sent to the site increasing traffic, popularity, and search result page rankings. Cloaking and hidden text are both good examples of black hat search engine optimization and are not allowed by the search engines. Cloaking redirects human visitors to one site while sending computer visitors, like search engine spiders, to a completely different site. This search engine optimization tactic allows a website to use the search engine results to deceive online visitors. Hidden text is a deceptive tactic where websites use text the same color that the page background is, so that people will see it but search engine robots may not. This method may also include text that is linked off the page, which will not be visible to the robots, only to people.
Search engine optimization is all about improving the search result rankings for your website. Using black hat SEO instead of white hat search engine optimization will only hurt your website in the long run. The best way to improve the ranking of your site is through Google pay per click advertising. This is a very effective, efficient, and affordable way to do search engine optimization that will provide permanent results, not just short term fixes until the search engine catches on.
