The world of Spam protection had been enjoying an uncharacteristic period of calm over the last few weeks. After the closure of unscrupulous hosting sevice, McColo, (a service provider that coordinated a phenomenal amount of spam until its actions were discovered by security researchers at the start of the month) forced levels of spam to drop by as much as 65%. That period however, would appear to be over as, predictably enough, the spammers have found a way back.

Double Standards at Apple
November 29, 2008 by Matt ThomasA double standard in the rules that govern inclusion in Apple’s ‘App Store’ has emerged after Google admitted that voice search programme, Google Mobile App violates Apple’s SDK. Specifically, Google Mobile App is using undocumented APIs to conduct its voice searches. This is forbidden by the rules that Apple have set out for developers wanting to create applications for the iPhone, which clearly state that developers may use, only APIs supplied in the iPhone developers kit. The offending APIs relate to the app’s proximity sensor function.

Facebook attempts to buy Twitter
November 28, 2008 by James OliverThe 15 billion valuation of Facebook negotiated in their Microsoft deal last year appears inflated to many. Nevertheless, it has given the social networking site some clout financially. Enough, reportedly, to offer a buyout worth $500 million dollars worth of Facebook stocks to Twitter, the personal blogging site. A deal that Twitter have apparently rejected out of hand.

Did Apple steal iPhone Software?
November 27, 2008 by James OliverInventor, Elliot Gottfrucht is suing Apple, claiming that part of the web surfing system very on the iPhone is ripped off from his patented system. The patent, filed on March the 13th 2006 was awarded to Gottfrucht’s company, EMG and covers a system for putting web pages onto televisions and mobile devices. It re sizes web content to the right size for the screen it is being viewed on and also allows zooming and scrolling.

Banker hits the big time with iPhone App
