January 17, 2009 by Matt Thomas

With the SmartPhone war growing more brutal, companies are looking for anything they can to get an edge on their opponents through good publicity. In this respect, Blackberry received an unexpected shot in the arm this week after it emerged that president elect, Barack Obama wishes to retain his Blackberry once in office. The president to be has had a long-standing love affair with the device and was often spotted using one during the campaign.

January 16, 2009 by Matt Thomas

If any of you were having doubts about just how big an online market China has become, let me put it into perspective for you. According to the China Internet Network Information Center, China currently have 298 million citizens online, that’s around the total population of the US.

  3. Jobs to take six month Break

January 15, 2009 by James Oliver

After months of speculation about his health, Apple chief, Steve Jobs, has revealed that he intends to take six months off from Apple, stating that the issues with his health are ‘More complex than originally thought.’ The announcement comes only days after jobs played down his health problems, claiming nothing more than a hormone imbalance forced him to miss the company’s final keynote speech at this year’s Macworld.

Yahoo’s two month search for a new CEO ended on Tuesday with the announcement that seasoned technology executive Carol Bartz would take over in charge of the number two search engine. 5. Times accused of smearing Google

January 13, 2009 by Matt Thomas

Remember yesterday when we reported that a Times article had accused Google searches of wasting energy? Well, it appears to have landed the Times in a spot of trouble not, as you might expect, with Google, but with the scientist behind the original study, professor Alex Wissner-Gross.

  6. Is Google destroying the Planet?

January 12, 2009 by Matt Thomas

That title felt kind of strange to type. I’m used to writing articles about how Google is unveiling a new, worthy strategies to save the world. However, it would seem that Google searches are a wasting huge amounts of energy, which, as we all know, leads to global warming and the eventual destruction of the human race… Thanks a bunch Google.

  7. What to expect from Windows 7 (Part 3)

January 11, 2009 by Matt Thomas

It would also appear that it is fairly easy to upgrade from Vista to Windows 7. The changeovers appear to be going quite smoothly, with install times reported at around half an hour to fifty minutes. Also, existing programmes appear to be largely unaffected. However, it is worth remembering that most of the people who have been testing out the new Windows at this stage are computer professionals and will, most likely, not have done so on their main computer, instead using a test PC, probably not jam packed with applications and media files.

  8. What to expect from Windows 7 (Part 2)

January 10, 2009 by Matt Thomas

Another useful sounding addition is the Action Center, a section that groups the main security and maintenance features of your PC together in one place. It’s not going to seem a huge deal to people that know their way around a computer already, though for casual users it could prove an invaluable resource as it allows them to manage the performance and security of their PC simply. Users can also schedule backups from this section.

  9. What to expect from Windows 7 (Part 1)

January 9, 2009 by Matt Thomas

Okay, the public beta version of Windows 7 has been out for three days now, that’s more than enough time for the blogosphere to have downloaded it, tried it out and passed judgement – to be honest, 3 hours is probably enough time for that. But what do they think?

  10. End of an Era for Macworld

January 8, 2009 by Matt Thomas

Macworld has changed forever. The last Apple keynote has been delivered and the company have departed from the event for the last time. In the end they went out with more of a whimper than a bang, closing with a performance from aged Crooner Tony Bennet, who sang ‘The best is yet to come,’ and appropriately, ‘I left my heart in San Francisco.’ I’m sure the performance was very enjoyable, though perhaps the crooner, who enjoyed the peak of his success in the 50s and 60s, didn’t quite chime with the cutting edge image that Apple want to portray.

  11. Chinese Government’s Crusade against Explicit Content

January 7, 2009 by James Oliver

The Internet is by definition a democratic concept. Anyone can write, post and upload almost anything they want with little control from governments possible. This is why the Chinese government has some tiny problems with it. They recognised long ago that the Internet was an essential part of their economic and social future though they have historically tried to limit its subversive potential, by restricting foreign news and dissent with their national search engines. Essentially they want to have their cake and eat it.

  13. What is going to happen at Macworld? (Part 2)

January 5, 2009 by Matt Thomas

In the same vein as the big iPhone there are rumours that the iPod Touch will receive a boost with some predicting that a 64gb device is to be unveiled at the Macworld conference. If this did turn out to be true it would be a telling sign of just how much the iPod has proliferated, not only as a music player but as device for playing movies and watching TV shows, after all, your average person doesn’t quite have 64 gigs of music.

  14. What is going to happen at Macworld? (Part 1)

January 4, 2009 by Matt Thomas

Ever since Apple announced that Steve Jobs would not be giving the Macworld keynote this year, and that they would be pulling out of the event altogether after this year, the questions have been coming thick and fast; what are Apple going to do to announce their products in the future? Why have they opted out of something that at least appeared to working well? But most of all there has been discussion of what they plan to do this year, how will they bow out? What, if anything, do they have for marketing chief, Phil Schiller (Jobs’ replacement) to announce?
