Stay of Execution for Microsoft
March 14, 2009 by James OliverMicrosoft, which is currently in the process of being sued by the European Union for violating antitrust laws, has been granted an extension of the deadline for them to respond to the allegations facing them. The new deadline has been set for April the 21st. The extension is a significant act of good faith on the part of the European Union – the body is not usually in the habit of granting extensions of this nature. It is thought that the size of the company and the large-scale nature of the infringement are factors in its decision to do so in this case.

New Microsoft Hardware
March 11, 2009 by Matt ThomasThere’s a new release from Microsoft. Unfortunately it’s not Windows 7 or a magical patch to make Vista work properly, in fact, it’s not even software. Microsoft’s hardware department have put their heads together and come up with a new gadget to keep laptops cooler. It’s an inch thick stand for your laptop that comes with an inbuilt fan powered off a USB connection to the laptop itself. They’re going to retail at about $30 dollars, which is a very good price for what it is.

Facebook Apes Twitter’s Realtime Service
March 8, 2009 by Matt ThomasThe major selling point that twitter has over Facebook is its real-time nature. Updates on twitter happen almost instantaneously, changing before your eyes as whoever you’re following updates their status. This week it seems that Facebook has woken up to this threat, tweaking its algorithm so that now fresh information floats serenely to the top of search results almost as soon as your friends change anything.

YouTube viewers break the 100 million barrier
March 7, 2009 by Matt ThomasAccording to comScore, 14.8 billion online video were watched in January. The principal was, obviously, the Google controlled, YouTube, whose users exceeded 100 million for the first time in the opening month of 2009. Startling as the web viewing figures are, they are part of a longstanding trend and actually represent only a four percent increase on December’s figures.

Ludicrous Fighting talk from Palm investor
March 6, 2009 by Matt ThomasRoger McNamee, co-founder of Elevation Partners has been quoted as saying that all iPhone users are going to be switching to Palm Pres when their contracts expire. Now, this site has been as complementary as anyone about Palm’s new venture and we really do hope that they can finally compete with Apple. However, claiming that the Pre is so good that every single iPhone user is going to toss their prized possession aside in disgust and embrace the device may be slightly overstating the case. Here’s the quote in full…
