The user of the site is very important and that should never be sacrificed because you are trying to make an attractive site or something that you like. The site isn’t about you. Sure having inbound links that are natural or outbound links to get ratings is a good thing, but you also need to consider the server.
The server is going to provide the speed as well as the content of the pages. The more speed you have the happier the consumer.
