Many people believe that Google explicitly forbids the use of symbols in add text and, it’s true, in some cases, if you use them, you will see a message from Google chastising you for the use of unnecessary punctuation or symbols. However, there are other symbols that Google will allow its advertisers to use. Used sparingly and appropriately these could make the difference between an ad that gets a click and one that doesn’t even register on a web user’s radar.
So, for the avoidance of doubt, here are the rules – if you can circumvent these well enough you should be able to punctuate your ads in a way that makes them stand out…
1.You are not permitted to use an exclamation point in your title and there may only be one in the entirety of the account
2.You cannot use repeated or unnecessary punctuation
3.There is to be no use of non-standard punctuation like tildas (~), asterisks (*), Symbols etc.
4.The use of letters, numbers and symbols must correspond to their true meanings
Okay, granted, the rules are pretty tight. However, if you get a little creative, there are ways to differentiate your ad.
I’ll give you specifics tomorrow…
