After their meteoric nose-dive in the early nineties apple has fought back impressively, coming back from the dead to a level of influence and extreme profitability. However, it never really managed to convince the business sector to re-adopt its products, a situation that remains to this day, much to the annoyance of the top Apple execs.
Luckily for them, it’s a situation that appears to be changing, albeit slowly, with the adoption of the iPhone by numerous companies. Some of the credit for this has been given to the numerous business packages available on the iPhone 3G. However, the real reason would appear to be that younger executives and employees, after finding themselves attracted to the iPhone as essentially a social toy or status symbol, have found it creeping into their working day.
It would seem that once again Apple have benefitted from creating a product with a great image and look that people want almost regardless of its performance and capabilities. That notwithstanding, the company has a long way to go before it’s anywhere near the Blackberry. The RIM device is still the standard Smartphone for business, though its usage has declined over the last few years whilst the iPhone’s continues to rise significantly.
