When Apple unveiled the iPad to the public at the beginning of this year many people asked the question: “Is that not just a giant iPhone?.” In many respects the answer is yes, it does seem like an oversized iPhone, so it would seem pretty unlikely that Apple would think of releasing a smaller version of the iPad would it not?
Well, according to influential market analysts Apple will be doing just that as it is predicted that they will indeed be releasing a more compact version of the iPad that will go on sale in the early part of next year.
The so called “iPad mini” will apparently feature a screen somewhere between 5” and 7”, significantly smaller than the current models 9.7” display.
It is likely to hit shops in the first quarter of 2011 and should be cheaper than the current model. The information comes from market analyst Mingchi Kuo, who claims that he has spoken to a source within the component manufacturing industry who claims that Apple are in pre-production of the product.
The “iPad mini” would be Apple’s attempt at appealing to those consumers that are more sceptical about the size of the current iPad, those who are looking for something more portable. It will still be a full colour reading device but will work on the premise of not having to input too much text.
So what’s next from Apple? A bigger version of the iPhone
