Building a Search Engine Friendly Website - Part 4

Don’t Do This with Your Site

You do not want to require submissions on your site. If you ask for forms to be filled out or a submit button the spiders are not going to get through your web page. They can’t fill out the forms so gaining access is not going to happen. Any page you want indexed must be free for the spider to troll which means a new submission form.

You should also watch out for the registration, cookies, or search options. Spiders are not going to fill out these forms as we have already mentioned. This means they can’t get around cookies. Cookies are not going to be accepted by the search engine spider and you will lose that ranking you would like to have.

Making the spider use your own search engine to find content is going to limit you as well. A spider doesn’t want to see hoops, it wants to see content. If you do have registration or cookies required for your page there are ways around the spiders. You can actually use an IP delivery that will recognize the search engine spiders. This will at least get them in the door rather than hanging out to dry or worse cutting your rank.
