Building a Search Engine Friendly Website - Part 8

Linking Your Pages

When you create a web site you need your pages to be linked so that the person viewing each page on your site can navigate with ease. This means that each page on your website should not only link with the next logical page, but the person should also be able to get back to the homepage.

If you have to click back on the browser window to get to the homepage you are not linking your web site correctly. By reinforcing these links you are able to help the search engine crawl through your site as well as the consumer.

You should also be very logical in your linking from page to page. You need to use the same URL format for each page when creating these links. To create a usable site with architecture you need to create a flat scheme. This means the internal linking is more important than a directory tree.

You need to know what pages you want to be ranked by a search engine and make sure they can be found by the spiders. For example your about page would be something you don’t care to have indexed, but your products or content is very important.
