McAfee to acquire mobile security firm

Well known virus protection firm McAfee has announced this week that it has signed an agreement to acquire Trust Digital, a provider of mobile security and management software targeting corporations.

Neither company has disclosed terms of the deal or how much McAfee are having to pay for Trust Digital.

There are still also questions regarding how many of Trust Digital’s 30 to 40 employees will be making the move over to McAfee.

California based company McAfee are expecting to combine Trust Digital’s solution that allows corporations and organisations to manage their employees smart-phones with their antivirus and other security software and its centralised management and reporting service through ePolicy orchestrator. This symbiosis will guard against such risks as malicious downloads of applications onto smart-phone devices.

Around 180 million mobile devices are currently loaded with McAfee mobile security software whilst Trust Digital software works on a whole range of mobile operating systems including iPhone OS, Android, Web OS, Symbian and Windows Mobile.
