In a move that will delight webmasters and developers, Royal Mail has promised to give away postcode data for free. The move is part of the organisations commitment to make more use of technology and the internet to help transform their services. This is particularly important for ecommerce sites, who often use post codes to predict the full addresses of users, taking a valuable step out of the payment process, which as anyone who’s worked in ecommerce knows, is the best way to lower your number of abandoned carts.

Earlier this week the Chinese Government appeared to have reconsidered their controversial policy of requiring their ‘Green Dam Youth Escort,’ internet filtering software to be installed in all computers sold in Chine. However now, US computer makers are saying that they have done no such thing and that they have seen no change in policy from the Chinese authorities, though Hewlett Packard and Dell, amongst others, have reportedly attempted to get them to reconsider the policy.

SAP, the biggest business software company in the world, has announced that it will be cutting 3,000 jobs whilst warning that cuts may go even further. It has also frozen the wages of the entire 51,500 person workforce.
