Flickr has changed several features of the popular photo/video sharing site to make it easier to access with a mobile phone. The updated site is called m.flickr.com. Currently the site is available only to users of Apple mobile devices like the iPod Touch or the iPhone though Flickr plans to make the site new site available to any phone able to run either Firefox or Opera. There are also plans afoot to develop a flickr mobile site for phones using Android and the Nokia N Series.
The site decided to make these changes after seeing a huge spike in the number of people accessing the site from mobile devices. “this [the new site] is a recognition of that change,” said Shanan Delp, one of Flickr’s product managers.
Flick has long been a popular site for people looking to share photos with colleagues or friends. It is thought that the mobile version of the site will be a popular addition to the brand especially for people fond of snapping pics on nights out.
For $25 dollars Flickr’s mobile users can also upgrade to a ‘Pro’ version, which provides users with a range of capabilities not offered on the basic site such as ‘favourite images’ and the ability to add contacts.
