Times are hard at the Microsoft PR department currently, what with the company demanding money from recently sacked workers after severance miscalculations. However, it’s not all bad news, the department are currently in the process of announcing something that casts Microsoft in an awfully good light indeed – free technology courses.
With more and more people becoming unemployed every day, retraining is going to become a big issue for the government, the unemployed and anyone looking to make their job more secure by taking on new skills.
The plans, announced yesterday, are part of a three year strategy called Elevate America which purports to give the American workforce the technology skills needed to succeed in the new computer-based economy.
Microsoft Vice President, Pamela Passman put it like this…
“Millions of Americans don’t have the technology skills needed in today’s economy. Through Elevate America, we want to help workers get the skills they need to succeed.”
The programme is to be rolled out in three US states initially the first being Washington, Florida and New York will be next of the list. Microsoft plans to liaise with each state in order to find out precisely what they need in terms of IT training.
