Google finally launches Adsense for Games
Last Week, after more than a year, Google finally launched Adsense for Games, its in-game advertising platform. Advertisers will now have access to literally millions of web based flash games.
The move is expected to provide a shot in the arm for the relatively small in-game market – responsible for only $1 billion’s worth of subscriptions and advertising last year. Google’s move has lent credibility to the market and made numerous developers and advertisers sit up and take notice of this new advertising frontier.
The project was initiated by the company’s acquisition of Adscape Media in 2007 and a beta version has been running since the start of this year with participation from the likes of Konami, Playfish and Zynga. From last week a whole raft of companies will be able to apply to the program – demand is expected to be great.
The system works like this, once advertisers have won an auction with other companies for a placement within a game, Adsense for Games allows advertisers to include video spots, contextual ads and text ads. Advertisers can also devise campaigns based on genres, keywords and specific games with revenue between Google and game developers.
Flash game developers are expecting a boom period as Adsense for Games allows them to make money of their creations, many for the first time.
