Google to invest in Energy

31/10/08 10:00 AM

Google have been involving themselves with more than search for a while now. These days the company seems interested in everything from politics to space travel. For this reason, it will come as a surprise to precisely no one that they branching out yet again, this time into the energy sector, reportedly hoping to design a range of tools to help people make better energy decisions.

Google are so serious about the project they have recruited a team of engineers and dispatched them to conduct research into renewable energy. Since it’s Google, these engineers are a diverse bunch of over-achievers and include former government officials and even an astronaut amongst their number.

In addition to this, the philanthropic arm of Google, Google.org is considering heavy investment in renewable energy projects.

It’s important to remember however, that, though large and influential, Google is not recession-proof. Time will tell, as the grip of the economic downturn tightens, whether or not they will be forced to curtail some of their more philanthropic and blue-sky projects by pressure from shareholders.
