How Meta Tags Should Be Implemented
Meta descriptions or tags are very useful to your overall page content and of course the rankings you get. Meta tags are not the best for getting the high rankings. In fact the meta tags are more for the consumer than they are for the search engine. We will discuss why in a little bit.
The point of descriptions is to offer more for the sales pitch on the title tags. This is the hook that will get the consumer to your page without issue. The description will appear on the search results, but the fact remains the search engines spiders don’t pay attention to tags. You still want to offer a rankings boost in the keywords. While the meta tags are not essential the keywords help relate to the page. This means that you do get a few points for the keywords you are using. It doesn’t always ensure a rankings boost though.
NOTE: Every Page Should Have a Unique Description.
To enhance your web page and the traffic to the page you need a meta description for every page and not just the home page. This makes it seem as though it is an entrance page and offers more than just the title.
The keywords you use again should be very detail oriented. They should have the utmost relevancy to the page overall rather than being something that is just used. The keywords are an element that could help rankings, but more than that it will not hurt the ranking. The search engine glosses over the meta keyword tags to make sure the words are relevant, but actually having the tag is unimportant to the search engine. It is imperative to the traffic you want though. You should not use keyword stuffing either as we mentioned a bit above. You need to have enough keywords that make sense in the meta tag, but not something that doesn’t make sense. Commas can be used lightly. You can also include misspellings of the words to help bring about more results. It may look unprofessional, but intentional misspellings offer the page to consumers that forget how to spell something or miss type. It happens- let it work for you. The last thing to mention is that keywords stuffing can be a penalty against you, so it can have an effect on the overall success of the page.
