Apple had been expected to update its iMac product list before the end of the year bringing its processors up to the level of Intel’s latest technology. However, according to Bill Evans, Apple’s press representative, it now seems that will not be happening. Evans stated fairly unequivocally that, “The holiday line is set.”
iMacs currently use processors that, whilst they have similar characteristics to Intel’s newest Core 2 Duos, are in effect made from last-generation components, which lack the performance of their rivals. iMacs also trail the latest MacBooks when it comes to video, with that side of things remaining unchanged since August 2007.
Big names at Apple have been talking about utilising NVIDIA hardware in their products for some time, it could just be that their inclusion, which would mark a major change to the system, is behind the postponement. However, in all honesty, this is just speculation. The reasons behind this delay are unclear as is its length, all we can say with any degree of certainty is that any changes to the iMac are, at the very least, two months away.
