Is Updating Your Content Important?

October 7, 2008 by Admin

If your website was not crawled within the last two weeks it needs a little help. While content is not the most important to the crawling abilities of a search engine it does have a minimal effect. In fact a site that has updates to content more frequently can expect more crawling from a search engine. New sites and blogs often get a higher ranking because they are crawled more often.

Our main point however, is to establish links. You can certainly get your site crawled more frequently, but to be a real success you have to have links that will automatically get you in the index. You can fall out of the index even if you update with frequency because you don’t have enough links.
Deeplinks:

Getting links to your homepage is not going to be enough. You need to get links to your other pages as well. By offering high quality links pointing to the most important page you will get a higher ranking than if you spam your page with useless links. Quality is overall imperative. External links while they help are not as important as the internal links and incoming links. You need more links to come than go out. So keep this in mind when you establish a new link.

Link popularity is also something that is unnecessary today. Instead you need to get links through traditional methods. This means reciprocal link swapping, getting your page in directories, and renting run of site links. The more traditional you are the better chance you have of getting in the good index.

With any search engine and especially Google it is about link quality not quantity. For those who just link to anything they will be doing more harm to their site than good. You need a small number of high quality links to get a better page ranking in the search engine. The best links will be made with a viral content and networking. You definitely want to speak with related businesses about getting links established over buying a huge number of links from a site.

You can also find some free authoritative links. You still need to understand what pages on your site are getting the most traffic. For example, a money making page might be the better page to link with for quality links because that is the page doing you the most good.

If the pages making you money are not worthy of the good index your entire site will be sent to the pit of despair. You need to build links with valuable content. A company that sees better content will be more likely to link with you. So have some strong incoming links on your money pages.
