Latest iPod narrows the gap to the iPhone
Reports on the new version of Apple’s popular iPod Touch appear to be generally positive. Apparently the new touch works better, looks better and has more features than the previous models, so much so that the gap between it and the iPhone is fast disappearing, essentially the Touch is an iPhone without the phone.
One of the most significant improvements to the new iPod is the price. The device retails at $229 dollars, a full $60 dollars cheaper than its predecessor and still manages to offer everything its predecessor did, even quicker and better. Apple has also decided to allow developers to design applications for both the iPhone and the Touch, which should further narrow the gap between the two devices.
Surprisingly, Apple have also chosen to sell the a set of headphones with a builty in microphone. This is all but asking iPod Touch users to use the handset as a Skype phone as well, bypassing those cumbersome contracts and making the difference between the two even less relevant.
It wouldn’t be an Apple review if I didn’t talk about the look of the thing so here goes, it’s lovely as you’d expect and is also a lot thinner than the previous model. The Touch has always been seen as a sub-standard version of the iPhone though now there is very little difference between them. If you’re in the market for an iPhone but don’t particularly fancy the hassle of a new phone contract, the touch might be a good plan…
