You could also become a top author for a category in order to get more sites on your actual page. Use quotes, catchphrases, or even keywords that will offer something different.
A lot of times in the article a top seven, top ten, or top something as a title gains more notice because you are considered to offer a list. A list with a quick read will help you in the article directories. Someone that offers the top ten and then hides it behind large paragraphs will not get natural links.
During your search you can also find article topics for you to rewrite. Again you have to be natural and make sure the duplicate content is not there, but using the top article directories and their top stories gains you unique articles that will get the marketing you need.
