Meta descriptions or meta keywords have been used in search engine optimisation from the beginning, but do they really work? Does a consumer read these descriptions and will Google put the web page higher if you have a meta tag or description?
The answer is yes. Google and other search engines are going to look for the keywords not only for placement, but relevancy. When you offer a meta description that tells the consumer what the web page is about in more detail than the title, the consumer is more likely to click on that site above anything else.
There are requirements for the meta description though. A web page can have 30 words and no more for the meta description. The description needs to be a teaser to get the consumer interested, but not enough to reveal key information.
Something many meta descriptions fail to do for the consumer and therefore your SEO is accuracy. You probably have run into the problem I am talking about. A web page comes up in a search stating everything you want, but the article you get on the page is far from the meta description. In fact the words you wanted aren’t even in the article. Don’t make this mistake in SEO.
