Simplicity computing has released a brand new computer called SimplicITy. The computer is intended to serve as a greatly simplified way for the elderly to start using computers and do the main things that they need to online without any unnecessary complications. The OS is Linux based and has a touch screen interface with only six buttons that cover core tasks such as emails, videos etc.
The SimplicITy is being launched in conjunction with co-founder of Discount Age, Valerie Singleton. The former Blue Peter presenter features in 17 videos that are pre loaded onto the system explaining to the user exactly what they need to do to use the computer effectively.
Project manager Wayne Cooper explained the thinking behind the development of SimplicITy… “Everyone has been focusing on the cutting edge and trendy things and the older generation have been left behind.”
The company has launched two versions of the computers and is already getting deluged with orders from nursing homes and community centres. It’s also garnering some very favourable publicity with endorsements rolling in from charities like Age Concern and Help the Aged.
