There’s a new release from Microsoft. Unfortunately it’s not Windows 7 or a magical patch to make Vista work properly, in fact, it’s not even software. Microsoft’s hardware department have put their heads together and come up with a new gadget to keep laptops cooler. It’s an inch thick stand for your laptop that comes with an inbuilt fan powered off a USB connection to the laptop itself. They’re going to retail at about $30 dollars, which is a very good price for what it is.
This week Microsoft also announced the colours of their trendy new Arc mouse. The mouse will retail for $50 dollars and be available in olive, white, eggplant (aubergine) and blue.
When you look at these new pieces of hardware from Uncle Microsoft you can’t help but notice that they all look very cool, almost reminiscent of Apple products, in fact. But tellingly, they’re retailing at about a third of what Apple would try to get away with charging for them. The subtext of all this is that Microsoft is coming after Apple’s home turf, trying to pull that trendy, aspirational market out from under them.
