Pay per click fraud is something any internet marketer needs to consider. A recent study has shown that the pay per click fraud average has not changed in the last 12 months. The report from Click Forensics states that the rate for a third of the year regarding pay per click fraud has been 16 percent, which is the same as a year ago, 2007.
This also means there was little change in the rate on the search engines like Yahoo, though their numbers are down just a bit. They were at 27.6 percent in 2007 and are now at 27.1 percent for 2008. The last quarter of this year is showing about 28.1 percent in pay per click fraud.
The good news is that the fraud level is not rising, but it is still near the 16 percent. There are many advertising companies that are taking steps to reduce the fraud action with filters, but it is still a competition.
The study also found the amount of traffic coming from botnets is on the rise. This means that the fraud is mainly from this area rather than regular search engine shoppers. By lowering the pay per click fraud companies will not spend as much on their advertising.
