Record Traffic for Celebrity and Presidential News - Part 3

Times and Telegraph Reeling From Popularity

Time’s New International website the Sun Online has seen an increase in popularity since January. They have grown by 39% in the last month. This record breaking growth has everything to do with the news currently being views online.

It seems everyone in the UK has been reading all about the US Presidential Election, Heath Ledger’s death, and Britney Spear’s omissions. Sun Online has increased from 13.322.535 to 250.138.195 in January. Telegraph has also seen an increase from 12,348,706 to 113,316,916 in the past month due to the news they are carrying.

A few other sites that have been seeing a steady increase are Mail Online, and Times Online. These increases are due in part to the news, but also to the search engine optimisation that is being used. Emily Bell the director of Guardian News and Media believes they are achieving the same numbers and high end news audience as the New York Times in the US. This is of course all due to the news surrounding the US. The election has everyone paying attention as the US has never had an African American or Women president, which is making the world stand up and take notice. Of course the death of Heath Ledger and Britney Spears are also gaining in popularity for UK residents.
