Record Traffic for Celebrity and Presidential News - Part 4

Media Boom Online

Newspaper websites are now seeing a competition for user’s attention like they have never seen before. While most of the websites are still competing the US news has catapulted many of the online news websites to a higher standing. The broadcasters, magazines, and blogs are also competing for attention, but this doesn’t mean the record media boom online is not centred on the newspaper sites overall.

Emily Bell believes that the growth was inevitable in the first few years for the online news sites and that it would begin to slow. However for many sites in the last month this slow down has yet to occur. The industry is still far from saturation; however it is beginning to happen because the competition is beginning to spread too far. Guardian’s online operation has had a transitional year with the design rolls and the network of the site.

Anne Spackman the editor in chief for Times Online has also indicated that the interest has centred on the US presidential election as the most sought news in the US and the UK. She believes the traffic increase is likely to continue as the elections are gaining in speed.
