  3. New Yahoo CEO

    Yahoo’s two month search for a new CEO ended on Tuesday with the announcement that seasoned technology executive Carol Bartz would take over in charge of the number two search engine. From her 14 year tenure as CEO at software company, Autodesk, Bartz has earned a reputation for revenue growth and straight-talking. However, it is thought that not all shareholders are thrilled with the move.

  7. Google Smashes Yahoo and Microsoft Again

    The continuing battle to be the best in the business has again been taken by Google. The company has again increased its lead over its rivals Yahoo and Microsoft. Market research companies have followed not just the monthly usage, but have data for year to date percentages. While Microsoft has still made strides over its competitors, their share has fallen since last year. Yahoo has seen a decline across the board.     The spike in share price that Yahoo experienced earlier in the week may prove to be short-lived, considering what Steve Ballmer, Microsoft’s Chief Executive said yesterday in Sydney, Australia. Balmer claimed that Microsoft was no longer interested in taking over Yahoo, which comes as some surprise considering the aggressive attempts the company has made to buy them in the past.

Since its inception, the deal had come up against strong criticism from advertisers, who feared prices would rise and the US Department of Justice, who feared that the deal would be anti-competitive.

  11. Search Engine Giants protect Freedom of Speech

    In a period where Microsoft is spending a lot of its time aggressively trying to buy, undermine or sabotage Yahoo and Google, it seems strange that there is anybody at either company willing to take a call from the computer giant. Somebody must have though, because the top three search engine operators have just announced a joint set of principles for doing business with nations where free speech is restricted, like China or North Korea.

    Search engine provider, Yahoo is being sued by one of the world’s leading airlines over copyright infringement. The unusual case boils down to this, American Airlines claims that, by allowing its competitors to bid on several of their trademarks, including AAdvantage and American Eagle, as keywords Yahoo has infringed their rights.

  13. Google and Yahoo seek to keep Ad Deal alive

    Yahoo and Google are currently in talks with the US Justice Department. The aim being to prevent the much discussed interference in their troubled advertising deal. The negotiations are in their formative stages, at present and it is not clear whether or not the proposed changes to the deal will be amenable to either the US government or Yahoo and Google.

  14. Yahoo shares hit a five year low

    Shares in Yahoo Inc. plummeted to their lowest point in five years yesterday. The dip is thought to have been caused by the weakening advertising market combined with increasingly tight regulatory scrutiny surrounding the proposed partnership with Google.
