Analysts are widely predicting a changing of the guard at the upper end of the email provider tree. Usage of Gmail, Google’s popular email service is growing at such a rate that, if it continues, the email service will overtake Windows Live Hotmail by the end of 2009.

New Yahoo CEO
January 14, 2009 by James OliverYahoo’s two month search for a new CEO ended on Tuesday with the announcement that seasoned technology executive Carol Bartz would take over in charge of the number two search engine. From her 14 year tenure as CEO at software company, Autodesk, Bartz has earned a reputation for revenue growth and straight-talking. However, it is thought that not all shareholders are thrilled with the move.

Yahoo cuts Data Retention period

Google Smashes Yahoo and Microsoft Again

Market research companies have followed not just the monthly usage, but have data for year to date percentages. Microsoft won’t buy Yahoo

Google pulls out of Yahoo Deal

Search Engine Giants protect Freedom of Speech
October 29, 2008 by Matt ThomasIn a period where Microsoft is spending a lot of its time aggressively trying to buy, undermine or sabotage Yahoo and Google, it seems strange that there is anybody at either company willing to take a call from the computer giant. Somebody must have though, because the top three search engine operators have just announced a joint set of principles for doing business with nations where free speech is restricted, like China or North Korea.

Yahoo’s turn to get Sued

Google and Yahoo seek to keep Ad Deal alive
October 14, 2008 by Matt ThomasYahoo and Google are currently in talks with the US Justice Department. The aim being to prevent the much discussed interference in their troubled advertising deal. The negotiations are in their formative stages, at present and it is not clear whether or not the proposed changes to the deal will be amenable to either the US government or Yahoo and Google.

Yahoo shares hit a five year low
October 9, 2008 by Matt ThomasShares in Yahoo Inc. plummeted to their lowest point in five years yesterday. The dip is thought to have been caused by the weakening advertising market combined with increasingly tight regulatory scrutiny surrounding the proposed partnership with Google.
