The Value of Content – Part 8

April 23, 2008 by Admin

The Filter

Google has what is called a duplicate content filter for web sites. This filter will only index on of the articles rather than both. So if you have two articles on a web site only one of those pages will be indexed. Usually the article of duplicate content posted in the index is the first page Google came across while crawling the web.

Page Rank and Site Authority also have a bearing on which content page is going to be indexed. Google will try to establish which article was the original.

If the site owner is discovered attempting to trick Google there are certain actions the search engine will take. Google may change the indexing and rank of the site with the duplicate content. This means that Google will look at the two websites side by side. Google will then try to determine which one looks like the original based on the site authority, page rank, and crawling results. If one is found to be the original it will remain on the index, and the other will be removed. This leads to the thought that some penalties exist regarding duplicate content. It is in your best interest to make sure this does not occur to you.

  1. There are hundreds of Pay Per Click Search Engines you can buy traffic from. As this number increases, it becomes more difficult to determine which ones are worth your time using. Google AdWords – The biggest and best for volume, traffic quality and user interface. However the most expensive.
