Website Marketing with Domain Names - Part 4
Domain Construction
When creating a domain name there is more to it than just the keywords you use. It is how you structure the domain name that could get you that extra boost. Google recognizes a domain name with more than two hyphens as being a spam site. If you need to use a hyphen in the name be careful where and when you use it, as well as how often. You also need to consider the content of the sites.
Just because you are selling the same products and it is the same business, Google can dock you for having similar content on each site. This means you need to change out the articles and descriptions so they are varied enough, without losing your customer base because of it. You must have unique content to play the game and win.
A question on what TLD’s to use is important to answer. You may use .za, .com, .net, or even .co.uk, but do you need to? Who is your target audience? Who will you ship your product to or sell your product to? If you are selling eBooks you can sell to the whole world, but is it effective to have all those sites?
