Website Marketing with Domain Names - Part 6

Google and Domain Names

When searching to decide on your domain name you are going to find a few specific things to consider. For example look at our earlier blog on cars in the UK. We told you that the domain name isn’t going to have the location mentioned, but instead it will have the .co.uk to orient you to the proper country. When you search for cars you get more than a billion sites.

When you search for websites with Cars in the UK you get a few million even when you use Google.co.uk. The difference in this second search is the search engine you searched on. Instead of the .com you used .co.uk. You still got the same result totals, but you have 9 out of 10 with the .co.uk rather than 9 out of 10 with the .com. This means you are getting more UK sites than other areas.

If you are based in the UK chances are the customer will be searching with the .co.uk for Google rather than .com. It is safe to assume that you need to have at least one .co.uk site if not one for each domain name you choose going back to our point that buying a .com and .co.uk is very effective for your business.
