Your Online Guideline to Avoiding Penalties from Google - Part 7
Common Causes of a Penalty
As a webmaster you need to keep yourself update regarding the Google guidelines for how to avoid penalties. Google offers an ever changing list of guidelines to webmasters that will help you avoid a disaster. Google does change this list of infractions, which means you should check it at least once a month or more frequently. When you check the guidelines you can be assured of staying out of the penalty box and in good ranking by of course following the suggestions. The guidelines have everything to do with the search engine optimisation you are trying for.
Here is one cause. Dubious linking is when you have linked to sites that are considered a bad neighbourhood. These bad sites have been banned or penalized by Google and therefore your linking with them could get you banned or penalized. The fact is the dubious link can take away from your own creditability. There are even some reciprocal link programs and networks that have been considered scams and will result in injury to your own site. The moral of this story is to know who you are linking with and who is linking with you. This does require research on your part. You need to study the sites you are thinking of linking to before you actually do so.
