Establishing Targeted Keyword Phrase for Adword Campaigns

One of the main buzzwords in Internet advertising is Targeted Keyword Phrase. It is one of the most critical elements of e-commerce because its relevancy to a website can drive in or drive out traffic. But it is not the easiest of processes. You have to walk a thin line. If your keywords are general as far as your product or services is concerned then your website will get a lot of traffic but most of it might not be useful traffic. Similarly if your keywords are too specific then you might not get any traffic at all. So you have to be extremely careful while choosing the keywords. They should not be too general or too specific.

There are only a few sites that provide effective PPC or Adword campaigns and the leader amongst them is Google Adwords. For example, if you have a website called www.mycds.com, which is basically an online music catalog then you need to choose keywords mostly related to music and music cd’s. You can start the website with keywords like music video, lyrics, songs, audio cds etc. These keywords will drive a lot of traffic through Google Adwords as well as Overture because they are specific to the product you are selling. It is not necessary that your sales may increase overnight but your adwords campaign will definitely be a success.

The next step will be to go back to the drawing board and figure out if there are any better keywords that can be applied to the existing Adwords campaign to drive more traffic and generate higher revenue. It is time to establish a new list of keywords. You can use some of the following websites to search for keywords:

  1. Google Adwords Keyword Search
  2. Overture Search Term Suggestion Tool
  3. 7 Search Keyword Search,
  4. Google.com

Insetad of using a general keyword like music cd’s, you can use the Google Adwords Keyword Search tools to find a list of specific and similar keywords like vinyl records or used CD. Once you get a list of keywords, you can derive further information from Overture Keyword Search to determine the number of times the particular keyword was used. This will give you an idea of how much traffic you can expect.

Let’s take an example. Instead of using the keyword "music cd’s", you can find a better keyword through Google Adwords Keyword Search. You can find a keyword phrase like "Rock Music". This phrase is more specific to the type of music that a particular individual might want and it is also specific to the genre of music albums you are selling. So now if you replace music cd’s with rock music then you will see a remarkable rise in targeted visitors to your website. There will be no general visitors.

By using a particular or specific keyword phrase, you will be paying 5 cents cost per click and end up with a potential expense of $30 if 3000 people came to your website after searching with the specific keyword. Everything will depend on the number of times that particular keyword has been searched or clicked upon. So basically, if you use the right keyword or keyword phrase then it might increase your cost a little but also bring you traffic.
