Search Engine Marketing and AdWords

Google has a good way to help you with your search engine marketing efforts. These are Adwords. These are words that you bid on. With this search engine marketing, the higher you bid, the better you are ranked with Google. In order to do this correctly, one must bid on specific words. Being specific can help you to reduce traffic that is looking for something similar to yours but not exactly what you have to offer. By being specific, you know that that visitor is there to buy your widget or whatever.
               

Next, do not get carried away with having to be #1 on Google, let the ego go. Being #1 will be more expensive. It won't do you that much more, as the next two spots do very well with clicks. Visitors who use your link enable you to enjoy money while gaining traffic.
               

Since you are looking for people to buy, make sure your ad helps to qualify your visitor. Someone looking for $50 surround sound DVD home theater system will not be a good visitor if you sell one for $1000. You understand.
               

You can start venturing in search engine marketing; you will need to have a separate campaign for each ad group. An ad group is a group of similar Adwords that may only differ in a letter or a word. Plastic widgets and wooden widgets would be the same ad group, and would need their own campaign. You will be able to create your ads based on the Adwords in each adgroups. This allows you to keep track of the clicks and to see which one is working and which one is not. You can have hundreds of campaigns going at one time, so it is going to be useful to have it all organized and the people doing this should have nothing else to do.
               

Make sure you run tons of ads with different Adwords. Do not settle for just the top keywords. This will give you a low click through rate as your competition is doing the same thing. Most people are very specific in what they want, so someone looking for a brown hammer may not visit a generic hammer site. They will look to find a brown hammer site and that is where they will go.
               

With Adwords you can do a split test of your keywords to see which one does better. This will allow you to determine one that will give you the highest click through rate and will help to lower your cost per click. This is another nice thing about Adwords and Google. The higher the click through rate is the lower you have to pay for them. Very nice.
               

Now that you have your search engine marketing keyword pulling in the visitors, you will want to make sure that they stay and pay. No use getting them there for just a visit. Either capture their email address for future follow up, or make sure that they buy when visiting. Your landing pages have to be consistent with your ads. You do not want a brown hammer guy landing on a page that shows him all sorts of things and makes him search some more to find his brown hammer. He will most likely just leave if it looks like work to get what he came for. Consistency search engine marketing is the answer.
