Britney tops UK Yahoo searches
In the list of searches via Yahoo for 2008 one name hits the top spot in both the UK and the USA, for in both cases the top figure searched for via Yahoo was Britney Spears.
Search engines regularly compile lists of popular searches and Yahoo is no different, but to find Miss Spears at the top of the UK lists may come as something of a surprise.
Second most searched for phrase on UK Yahoo in 2008 was ‘Big Brother’, the popular reality TV show, while talent contest ‘The X Factor’ came in third ahead of veteran rock band Oasis.
In fifth place is the worldwide phenomenon that is High School Musical 3, while the UK population show a modicum of interest in world affairs by placing the US election in sixth on the Yahoo search list.
Troubled yet very popular singer Amy Winehouse came in seventh, followed by late Batman actor Heath Ledger whose popularity proves that fame does not die with you.
Also in the top ten are perennial favourite bad girl model Kate Moss and the BBC TV show ‘Eastenders’ in the final slot.
Searches via Yahoo are increasing in frequency as Yahoo incorporates more features in order to grab a bigger share of this lucrative market.
