Google Images is one of the best and most popular image search facilities on the internet, so it’s surprising that Google have up to now resisted putting ads on it. They did however speculate recently that they could be losing up to $200 million dollars a year by not doing so. After that statement, it came as a surprise to absolutely no one when they began experimenting with banners on Google images and then last month with text ads.
Google would appear to be gearing up for a full roll out of Google Images advertising. To be honest I’m shocked it’s taken this long.
So how do you make sure your adverts show up on Google Image Search? Well, unfortunately that’s still unclear – there isn’t an option on Adwords that allows you to sign up for, or in fact to opt out of placement within image search just yet. Interestingly though, whilst the ads displayed on the image search are the same ones displayed on the regular search for those keywords, they appear in a different order. This means that Google is using different factors to decide what gets shown on Google images.
When we know more about this, we’ll let you know.
