App Store Developers suggest Changes (Part 1)
The App Store has been a blazing, unadulterated, success story. The portal has 500 million individual downloads to its name and more than 15,000 applications for its army of devotees to sample. It has also become the platform to beat, turning the process of downloading mobile apps from a chore into an aspirational consumer experience, and all this in the midst of an unprecedented global recession.
Predictably, the stable of App Store developers responsible for its success are fans of the platform, however they are aware that the App Store must adapt if it is to continue to grow and evolve, and they have some ideas…
There is a belief amongst developers that the App Store must continue to provide a platform for new and experimental applications in the free or 99 cents price range whilst also providing a meaningful venue for more ambitious projects in the pricier categories. The market is there for all categories. However, the trouble, currently, is that with so many applications it can be hard for one to stand out, particularly in the mid to long-term i.e., beyond the few day where it is considered new.
