Opera has just announced the release of the latest alpha version of its browser with an enhanced java-script engine and a whole host of UI improvements.

The latest version follows the existing version (10.50) of the browser which has already been hailed as the fastest internet browser available.

As was expected, the latest alpha version is touted to be even faster than version 10.50 thanks to the improvements made by Opera in the java-script engine. Opera has also displayed results of benchmarking tools like Peacemaker, in which the latest version gets better scores than rivals Google Chrome, Internet Explorer, Firefox and even the older sibling of Opera.

Apart from performance improvements, there are also changes to the UI as well.

These include the inclusion of a better looking, wide-screen Speed Dial, improved tab previews and redesigned, more visible menu options.

Users also get to choose custom icons for internal features. Linux users should pay close attention: Opera has said that Opera 10.5x for Linux will not be released as final.

Instead, all new features and enhancements will be available in version 10.60. These include the removal of Qt dependency, improved KDE and Gnome skinning, private browsing, and much more.

Opera’s new browser can be downloaded from the Opera website as of this week.
