Steve Ballmer, Microsoft CEO, has indicated that MIcrosoft will be using the upcoming Consumer Electronics Show (CES) primarily to show off Windows 7, not the rumoured Microsoft ‘ZunePhone.’
Ballmer is thought to be keen to get Windows 7 in the shops in time for the Christmas 2009 shopping season which means that this is his last CES before it’s launched. He apparently feels he needs the opportunity to get people excited about it.
This comes as a disappointment to many who were hoping for clues about the mysterious phone project using the Zune service. The ZunePhone is presently little more than a rumour though it is causing widespread speculation across the industry. Speculation that is set to continue, with very little chance of any kind of definitive statement from Ballmer in the short term.
However, that’s not to say that Microsoft definitely aren’t making a Zune phone – in fact it’s fair to assume that there probably is a plan of that sort afoot, just in a very formative stage.
Xbox fans needn’t worry however, Microsoft are predicted to give it its due at the show. Microsoft fans can also, as always, expect a few high profile partnerships to be announced as well as, most probably a celebrity guest or two.
