According to sources fake Apple products have begun appearing in various outlets across Thailand. Nothing particularly strange about that, you might say, Apple won’t be happy but not particularly surprised. Well, this particular bootlegging scandal is a little different. The fake phones are not forgeries of an existing apple product, but one that is rumoured to be on the way, the iPhone Nano.
The Nano has been rumoured to be on its way for some time, with some sources even confidently describing the look of the thing. However, neither Apple nor any manufacturer or supplier has been willing to confirm the phone’s existence.
Unfortunately for Apple, that is no longer debatable. Even if it is only available in the form of a Thai forgery, the forgers have clearly taken the rumoured appearance and made their own phone based on it.
According to reports the fakes are very good and even boast legitimate looking logos. The forgers clearly know what they’re doing, even managing to make the operating system match the iPhone’s very closely, right down to things like backgrounds and icons.
Apple are yet to comment though they are expected to play down the significance of this forgery. Privately however, I’ll wager they’re not too happy with the rug being pulled out from under their carefully planed launch.
