Gmail works offline!
Gmail is a hugely popular email service and provides many people with not just their personal email but their professional mail as well. It’s seen as one of if not the best email provider for people that work freelance or away from a traditional office furnished with a professional email provider like Lotus Notes or Outlook Express. However, it does have one major drawback in its lack of offline accessibility. Until now that is.
Users of Gmail can now access their previous messages without a network connection via a Google gears plug in for Internet Explorer and Firefox. Among other things, gears allows you to store information from the internet on your computer for perusal at a later date which is ideal for people who, for instance, travel a lot and need access to the information stored within their email accounts when away from an Internet connection.
If you think you match this profile then simply download Google Gears. You’ll then see an offline option under the labs tab in the settings section of Gmail, simply choose the enable button and restart your browser. You’ll be greeted with an ‘Offline 0.1’ link in the top right corner of the main window, clicking this link will begin the installation. Then you’ll be able to rife through your messages to your heart’s content, whether you’ve got an Internet connection or not.
