Grabbing a free link from Google

November 10, 2008 by Matt Thomas

It’s currently possible to take advantage of a loophole in a new Google update to get yourself a free link from Google itself. Google have removed the indexing block they had on Google Profiles from their robots.txt file, therefore Google Profiles are now actually being indexed by Google, as well as every other search engine. Links within those profiles are (currently) passing PageRank.

All you need to take advantage of this is a Google profile and a link within that profile to your site, get both of those and you will, in effect, have a link to your site from Google. Remember though, a profile cannot accrue PageRank without being linked to from other pages, so it’s important to link to your profile page from relevant places, like forum profiles and sites you control, ie. Squidoo or your own site.

This opportunity is very unlikely to last. There’s no way of knowing at what point Google will nofollow these links, so we suggest taking advantage of this opportunity now, while it exists.

Go on, now! Why are you still reading?
