How to get on the Digg home page pt2

OK, following on for my last post on getting onto the digg homepage, i will cover the first steps of how to achieve this. Once you have created a Digg account, spend a couple of days just toying with the site to learn how it all works. ‘Digg’ stories that you find interesting, and make sure to take a good look at the person who submitted the articles profile and statistics.

There are a few questions you need to ask yourself here:

  • Does this person actively ‘Digg’ a lot of stories?
  • Do they submit a lot of their own stories?
  • How many friends do they have?
  • Do any of their stories becomes popular?

Next, spend a little time looking at the different news categories. Digg is primarily a tech-focused news site, but the lines here have been blurred quite a bit, but none the less there isn’t a category for every kind of story.

An important area is the upcoming stories sections, this is where new stories can pop up before being made popular and being voted onto the home page. Spend some time searching and sorting through result.

Something which is very important before you start making friends is making sure they will want to be friends with you! To do this spend a bit of time updating your personal profile. To do this, click on the “profile” link at the very top center of your screen.

The first step would be to upload an icon, or what is commonly known as an ‘avatar’. If you don’t have a picture, you wont even get a look on Digg. This icon or image is one of only things that distiguishes you from everyone else and helps people to remember you so try to make it something creative.

Once you have done this, select “Manage Profiles” or “Edit” from the top left of the page.

Make sure your you have filled out your name, location and if you have one, your IM user name. Also, if you have a personal blog or website, add a link back to it to help give you more credibility.

In the next installment, i will be talking about how to build up your network of friends and what to do when you have a network of friends.
