New Google Favicon
Okay, this isn’t the biggest story in the world, I know, but it might interest you to hear that the Google marketing department appears to be having some trouble making decisions at the moment. The Google Favicon – the little image that appears next to the URL – has changed. The new logo is a lower case ‘g’ surrounded by blocks of red, green, yellow and blue.

The new logo replaces the simple blue ‘g’ that itself was only introduced in June. Apparently the little, blue g failed to wow the Google powers that be, lasting less than seven months before being pulled.
According to Marrisa Mayer from the company’s ‘Search Products and User Experience,’ department, the new logo is part of an initiative to create logos that would ‘scale better’ on new mobile platforms like SmartPhones. She also hinted that Google is not finished redesigning.
“By no means is the one you’re seeing our favicon final.”
And that, in the future, Google may bring out more than one logo at a time, maybe many logos at once.
“We’ve also developed a group of logo-based icons that all hang together as a unified set.”
Well, I suppose it keeps the marketing department busy…
