As I’ve told you numerous times before, when it comes to Apple, the rumour-mongering of the blogosphere is legendary, so I really advise you to take what I’m about to tell you with a pinch of salt. However, the blogs do appear to be awash with one particular rumour today, that Apple is building a brand new and vastly improved iPhone.
As I said, don’t get your hopes up, it is after all less than a year since Apple brought out their iPhone 3G. However, previous iPhones have been launched in June which would make the timeline about right for leaks to be starting to appear now.
According to Apple watchers (and there are a few of them), recent firmware updates have hinted at a new generation iPhone, or iPhone 2.1.
Let me explain, apparently Apple use a particular way to distinguish between iPhone models, the first iPhone being known as 1.1 and the 3G being known as 1.2. Changes in number represent major functionality adjustments like the introduction of 3G, so just imagine the excitement when a 2.1 was discovered in a recent non-encrypted firmware update.
I know, it’s pretty thin stuff, but if you’re an Apple fan it might be worth just keeping an eye on this one. I’ll bring you more information if and when I have it.
