SearchWiki Explained (Part 2)

(Continued from yesterday)

A little more useful than the up arrow is the delete feature, which allows users to simply get rid of a result they find unhelpful or irrelevant. You simply click the cross in the corner and the listing disappears. Except that it doesn’t, it just drops to the bottom of the screen, you can then choose to hide them or restore them, which is a little labour intensive for a function that’s supposed to save time.

You can also add a result by clicking a link at the bottom of the page. You then add the URL you wish to see on the first page of search results.

Obviously, the search results you amend will only appear changed to you, and then only when you’re logged in. For that reason, this is mainly of use for searches you do all the time, where it might be worth customising the results. However, if you really do a search that often then, you’re probably going to know the useful sites pretty well anyway.

This was an interesting idea from apple, and I’ll carefully follow how it develops, but right now, to me at least, it seems a little like innovation for its own sake.
