SEO School: Lesser known Techniques #2
#2. Optimise Images
If you take the time to describe the images on your site using the tags associated with them then you open up another family of values for Google to crawl and index, giving the Google bot more information on which to make a decision and so, probably, better ranking. Whenever you post an image it’s important to remember to specify a few things about it…
1. You need to a specify the alt text as well as the height and width of each image within the img tag. This will help Google rank you properly within image search, helping you show up in more than one way on Google
2. Near the image tag it’s also important to include relevant text, keywords and synonyms. This is very important as it can seriously affect the way your images rank
3. It’s also worth using the ‘img title’ attribute. There’s growing evidence that this attribute is useful and, interestingly, Chrome will not show text when you hover the mouse over a link unless this attribute is filled out, so this will probably become more important as Chrome becomes more widely used
4. Google also seems to be beginning to rank images in terms of quality, so keep the images big and high-res
