Google have added an all new determining factor to their famous site ranking system, site speed will now be taken into consideration when Google compile results from search queries.
Two of Google’s top search engineers, Matt Cutts and Ahmit Singhal made the announcement on the Google blog last week after having speculated and hinted about it since the turn of the year.
Full and complete details of exactly how site speed will be measured have not been released yet but they have revealed that they will be using a whole range of different components to determine how much faster one web site responds when compared to another.
One of Google’s main philosophies when it comes to web site speed is that ‘faster is better’ so expect websites with higher response times to be ranked generously. This new addition goes along with the current web trend of ‘real-time’ updates and information emanating from the likes of Facebook and Twitter as users crave up to the second information more and more.
Site speed, however, will not become a more important factor than relevancy in the search rankings, although it is quite an important aspect of ranking Google claim that the change will only affect 1% of results from search queries.
